Maren Lynn Chaloupka

About Maren Lynn Chaloupka

Maren Lynn Chaloupka’s roots were firmly planted in rural Nebraska – and in the law – when she was a child. Growing up in Scottsbluff, Maren began working in her father’s law office at age 11, and she would often join him in his travels for work. Often this was to visit his clients across Nebraska, but it could also be for depositions in a Wyoming prison, for an argument to a federal appeals court in Minnesota, or spending the day with a client’s family on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Even though Maren was too young to understand everything she saw, the ethic to serve clients amid the backdrop of the rural Midwestern landscape was deeply imprinted in her mind.

Today, Maren is one of the most experienced and respected trial lawyers in the region. She also is the founder of Chaloupka Law LLC.

Maren is a skilled and empathetic advocate who fights injustice on behalf of victims whose rights have been violated. Maren has successfully tried landmark legal battles in Nebraska and beyond that have both set precedent and resulted in millions of dollars of rightful compensation for her clients. Her primary areas of practice include personal injury, civil rights, criminal defense, and appellate law.

Maren earned her law degree from Emory University School of Law in 1995. She served as a judicial clerk to Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice C. Thomas White before entering into private practice. In less than 25 years as an attorney, Maren has tried 70 personal injury, civil rights, and criminal defense cases. She also has handled more than 80 civil and criminal appeals in state and federal appellate courts.

Maren and her paralegal, Riley Platt, have the courage, the ethics, and the experience to take on challenging or unusual cases that other attorneys might decline. Take a look at some of Maren’s case results here.

Maren is a 1999 graduate of the Trial Lawyers College, an intensive month-long national training program that helps attorneys strengthen and enhance their skills as trial lawyers who stand up for the rights of ordinary people. She was invited to join the TLC faculty a year after graduation, and now serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors. Maren also is the editor-in-chief for The Warrior, TLC’s quarterly journal. Along with the life experience she gained from her father, Maren also credits her abilities as a trial lawyer to her TLC training.

In February 2020, Maren was interviewed on The Trial Lawyers College Podcast about the importance of serving mentally ill clients in civil rights and criminal cases. You can listen to Maren’s interview click below.

Maren is active in the Scottsbluff community. As a supporter of the Riverside Discovery Center and all of its benefits to residents and visitors in western Nebraska, she has served on the zoo’s Board of Directors since 2015. Maren also supports Theatre West Summer Repertory, a major component of the vibrant western Nebraska arts community. Maren’s mother, Judy Chaloupka, served as the program’s executive director for more than 20 years. Maren serves as a volunteer piano accompanist and music director for Theatre West’s popular “Broadway in the Bluffs” concert every February, helping to raise money for Theatre West’s community programs and professional-quality performances. Maren’s faith is important to her. She is a life-long member of the Session of the First Presbyterian Church of Scottsbluff, and attends every Sunday. Maren practices compassion and integrity in her personal and professional life.

Maren has earned a SuperLawyer designation by Thomson Reuters. She also has been given a Martindale-Hubbell rating of AV, the highest level of recognition for professional excellence, skill, and integrity among attorneys nationally.

When she’s not practicing law or giving back to the community, Maren can be found with her beloved Great Pyrenees, Ole (named in honor of her great-uncle on her father’s side), and her cat, Timmy. Maren can be reached at mlc@chaloupkalaw.net.
