No AI Research/Writing

Our Own Work, Not AI’s

For the vast majority of clients, hiring an attorney is a significant expense. When you commit yourself to that expense, you have every right to expect that your attorney will actually do the work for her fee instead of outsourcing it to an app. That includes all written communications, whether to the court, to witnesses, to opposing counsel and to you.

Chaloupka Law will not use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other artificial intelligence tools to write legal motions, legal briefs, outlines for any part of trial (including jury selection, opening statements, witness examinations, final arguments, etcetera), emails and other correspondence, or any other written communications. Chaloupka Law also does not use AI to perform legal research for you.

Yes, it takes more time for us to actually do the work with our own brains, the way lawyers always did the work before the invention of AI. Good writing is a skill, as is good legal research, as is smart preparation for trial. It takes time and effort – but at Chaloupka Law, if a client’s case is worth taking, then it is worth our time and effort to do that work right and do it ourselves.

And, because we do not use AI to research and write for our clients:

  • We will not put our clients at risk, as a rapidly-growing number lawyers have done, of court-imposed punishment for submitting legal writing that contains AI-fabricated quotes and legal authority;
  • We will not overbill you for an hour (or more) of work that we’ve secretly submitted to an AI program for “instant gratification”; and
  • We will not rely on the accuracy of an AI program in preparing your case for a judge and/or a jury, when trial preparation requires the good mind, heart and judgment of an actual human.

Not every lawyer and not every law firm will make this pledge. Chaloupka Law takes the ethical obligations for attorneys seriously, and that includes not placing our clients at risk in order to avoid the effort of writing our own professional communications.
